Aperol is owned by parent company Gruppo Campari, it sibling brands being Campari and Cinzano but Aperol is a bit sweeter.... you can find it all over Italy. A firm favourite in Venice, as well as events that Aperol sponsor, most notably the Milano Film Festival and the Italian Moto GP...

Every bar in Italy worth is salt should be able to make you a great Aperol Spritz, Make sure you get good prosecco, lots of ice and a nice vista to really appreciate it!! Two and things start going pleasantly squiffy!

The Classic Aperol Spritz...

3 parts prosecco, 2 parts aperol, 1 part soda water. Serve over ice and finished with a slice of orange....

The ultimate evening aperitivo. Especially after a good day walking round soaking up all things great in Lucca.

Aperol was first created in Italy in 1919 and is currently enjoying a new lease of life/ popularity around the world.

It's made with typical amaro botanicals like bitter orange, gentian and cinchona, as well as rhubarb, the sour stalk that just screams summer.

An article though in Corriere dell Sera noted recently that Italians are aghast at some of the way the Aperol Spritz is being made - one version served with frozen berries was particularly not welcomed.
