Caffetteria Turandot featuring Tenuta San Pietro
21 June 2018
This warm summer evening in June at my favourite caffetteria in Lucca was the backdrop for a unique collaboration with chefs from the restaurant and hotel relais, Tenuta San Pietro, from nearby Marcigliano.
Their food concept was a menù degustazione comprising a tasting menu of six individual dishes with wine accompaniment created by chef Gabrio Dei and Livia Bigagli with Irene Tronci. With friends Eddie and Karen, we with started with:
Crostatina di fegatini con gelatini al vin santo (classic chicken liver crostini)
Arista tonnata al tuorlo d’uovo (sliced tuna with egg yolk)
Agnolotti di ricotta e bietole (pasta with ricotta and bietole)
Calamaro piselli e lardo (squid with pea and thin-sliced pork fat)
Muffatino di capra con pesca confit (goat’s cheese with peach confit)
Crostatina meringata al limone (lemon meringue pie)
Tenuta San Pietro is a 16th century farmhouse that was completely restored in 2004 by its Norwegian owners to create a beautiful restaurant and small luxury hotel. High up in the Luchese hills, the venue has superb views across the valley towards Lucca.
To get a full idea of what Tenuta San Pietro has to offer, I recommend their website www.tenutasanpietro.com
Our evening at Turandot was hugely enjoyable, as it combined the local delights of Lucca, with the hospitality of Turandot and the delicious food and wine provided Tenuta San Pietro. It doesn’t get much better than that!
