ARTIST IN LUCCA: Geoff Pavitt

Geoff was born in south London in the early 50’s. Since his father was a Master Butcher, who had often prepared meat for the Royal family at Windsor Castle,  Geoff worked in the family business for nearly 30 years that also sold fresh pasta, fruit and vegetables, Italian delicatessen and fine wine. He too became a member of the City of London Livery Company of Master Butchers based near Smithfield Market.

In 2000 Geoff moved on, after gaining a BA (Hons) Degree in Humanities, a Diploma in European Humanities and lastly, an MA in London Studies, to become the business manager and archivist of Gresham College, a historic and unique City educational institution since the 16th Century.

At Gresham College, with the help of the Provost Lord Sutherland of Houndwood, Geoff wrote and published Portraits of the Gresham Professors and gave several lectures on the history of the College and mercantile London. He has continued to pursue his passion for art history, food and wine and the operas of Giacomo Puccini.

Geoff has two sons, Simon and Andrew and one daughter, Lucy plus seven very lively grandchildren!
