May weddings in Lucca

On the 28th May 2016 our good friends Mattia and Michelle repeated their wedding vows to many of their friends who were unable to make the journey to Melbourne, Australia for their marriage on 28th February 2016.

The occasion and party was held at Mattia’s parent’s family home in Lucca’s hills just beyond the small village of Aquilea twenty minutes by car to the north. The beautiful farmhouse is set in a gorgeous landscape with stunning views.

A great event that included homemade pizzas from the pizza oven, homemade wine, much singing and dancing with a local band for many hours. It had a nice blend of formal ceremony and seated tables to ‘mangiare bene’. Some drama occurred when the family’s small puppy went missing whilst being stuck in a drain but their large Alsatian became the hero and eventually found him. Getting home afterwards at night was hazardous for the uninitiated as the track is narrow, steep and crumbly driving slowly through woods in pitch-black.

Great excitement and expectation is beginning to grow as wedding arrangements are starting to take shape for my eldest son Simon and his fiancé Claire who plan to marry at Villa Bernardine Mansi in the Lucchese hills at Segromigno in Monte. Although they intend to marry during the last week of May 2018 preparations are planned two years in advance and most, if not all, the accommodation at the group of villas are already booked
